The Sembrich Dedicates Performance in Memory of Long-Time Board President William “Bill” Hubert
The Sembrich is dedicating the upcoming performance Nature, Our Gentlest Mother in memory of long-time Sembrich Board President William “Bill” Hubert. Hubert served as President of The Sembrich’s Board of Directors for over a decade, beginning in 2008, and sadly passed away this summer. The performance on Wednesday, August 11 at 2:00 PM is a celebration of the connection of nature and song performed by Sopranos Sylvia Stoner and Suna Gunther and features works by Aaron Copland, Richard Strauss, Lilli Boulanger, and Lori Laitman.

This is a riveting first-hand glimpse, through the eyes of composition student Jerry Hearst, of the mentorship of the noted composer and teacher Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco. Written by C.V. Hearst, the son of the film’s protagonist, this masterpiece for the big screen recalls the daunting struggles to balance the pressures of family and an innate musical calling through the career of a successful artist.

The Vermont-based soprano and string bass duo will present an evening specially curated for The Sembrich’s idyllic lakeside grounds. In addition to prepared music, audience members will experience a "Duet with Lake George" come to life in real time as the duo’s bassist Evan Premo uses a loop pedal on his string bass to improvise on and transform the natural sounds of the lake environment into a new composition.
