The Sembrich is dedicating the upcoming performance Nature, Our Gentlest Mother in memory of long-time Sembrich Board President William “Bill” Hubert. Hubert served as President of The Sembrich’s Board of Directors for over a decade, beginning in 2008, and sadly passed away this summer. The performance on Wednesday, August 11 at 2:00 PM is a celebration of the connection of nature and song performed by Sopranos Sylvia Stoner and Suna Gunther and features works by Aaron Copland, Richard Strauss, Lilli Boulanger, and Lori Laitman.

The Sembrich continues its 2021 Summer Festival with Nature, Our Gentlest Mother an afternoon song recital with sopranos Sylvia Stoner and Suna Gunther. Celebrating the connection of nature and song, listeners will experience the beauty of Aaron Copland’s settings of Emily Dickinson poems, luscious songs by Richard Strauss, and works of women composers including Lori Laitman and Lili Boulanger.

BOLTON LANDING – The Sembrich presents the must-see lakeside performance Music for the Great Outdoors with “wizard of the accordion” Michael Bridge on Saturday August 7 at 6:00 PM. The evening’s repertoire ranges from a technically demanding classic by J.S. Bach to popular gems, such as Csardas by Monti and Moon River by Henry Mancini, and works with a Spanish flair, including Andaluzia by Granados and Intoxicating, a tango composed by Bridge himself. Audience members will hear both an acoustic instrument and a more modern digital accordion and will delight in Bridge’s original arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s iconic 1812 Overture.

The Sembrich will welcome the Manhattan-based Chelsea Opera to its lakeside grounds for Under the Mulberry Tree, a relaxing evening of opera and jazz favorites on Wednesday, August 4 at 6:00 PM. The perfect music for an evening by the lake, this outdoor performance by members of the company offers popular pieces from the operatic and jazz repertoires. This is an ideal event for any listener looking for a relaxing and casual concert experience. Program highlights include the Flower Duet from Lakmé and Chuck Mangione’s Land of Make Believe.

The Sembrich continues its 2021 Free Film Festival with a lakeside screening of the 2018 film The Maestro on Monday, August 2 at 7:30 PM. Viewers will journey to Hollywood following the Second World War and dive into the vast world of film music. This is a riveting first-hand glimpse, through the eyes of composition student Jerry Hearst, of the mentorship of the noted composer and teacher Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco. Written by C.V. Hearst, the son of the film’s protagonist, this masterpiece for the big screen recalls the daunting struggles to balance the pressures of family and an innate musical calling through the career of a successful artist.

The Sembrich will host a live-stream of Seagle Festival’s world premiere opera HARMONY with a champagne toast on Saturday, August 14 at 7:00 PM. The evening will include a live introduction by The Sembrich’s Artistic Director Richard Wargo, a champagne toast, and a live-streamed screening of Seagle Festival’s world premiere event.

The Sembrich Continues its Touba Family Foundation World Music Wednesdays concert series with Russian Folk Trio Moscow Nights on Wednesday, July 28 at 2:00 PM. Moscow Nights is an exciting, versatile trio of world-renowned, prize-winning musicians from Russia. Now based in Raleigh, NC, the classically trained ensemble has established itself as one of the most popular folk groups in the United States and Western Europe.

BOLTON LANDING – The Sembrich presents the innovative Scrag Mountain Duo in “The Living Earth,” an eclectic program that evokes the beauty and grandeur of the natural world, on Saturday July 24 at 6:00 PM. The Vermont-based soprano and string bass duo will present an evening specially curated for The Sembrich’s idyllic lakeside grounds. In addition to prepared music, audience members will experience a "Duet with Lake George" come to life in real time as the duo’s bassist Evan Premo uses a loop pedal on his string bass to improvise on and transform the natural sounds of the lake environment into a new composition.
