The Marcella Sembrich Memorial Association honors international opera singer Marcella Sembrich at her former teaching studio and woodland retreat on Lake George. Our mission is to:
Preserve and protect the museum collection, historical significance, and legacy of Marcella Sembrich;
Present performances and exhibitions that foster an appreciation for music, including opera, and the arts;
Provide educational opportunities for the study of classical music.
About The Sembrich
Discover the rich history of The Sembrich. Opened to the public in 1937, The Sembrich museum has been in continuous operation for more than 80 years. Since 1940, The Marcella Sembrich Memorial Association (The Sembrich) has honored the life and legacy of Polish-American soprano Marcella Sembrich with a unique museum and performance season.
Marcella Sembrich
Explore the legacy of Polish soprano Marcella Sembrich (1858-1935), one of the most notable musicians and teachers of the early 20th century. With her voice she conquered the major stages of Europe and the United States and was one of the first artists to record commercially for the Victor Talking Machine Company. Following her retirement from opera in 1909, she became the founding director of the voice programs at the Curtis Institute of Music and the Juilliard Graduate School.
