The Sembrich’s Free Film Festival continues with an outdoor screening the 2019 documentary film Fiddler: A Miracle of Miracles on Monday, August 16 at 7:30 PM. The film is the first documentary to chronicle the complete story of the international Broadway blockbuster musical Fiddler on the Roof by exploring the unexpected richness of its themes as well as its extensive reach across time and cultures. Fiddler on the Roof is the tale of Jewish immigrants coming to America, of immigrants and refugees trying to escape persecution in their homeland, of the fraying of tradition, generational tension, and the loss of roots.

Fiddler is a wonderful exploration of this timeless Broadway hit,” says Executive Director Suzanna M. Bernd. “We look forward to sharing this glimpse into theatrical history and world cultures with our audience. The film is also a perfect precursor to The Sembrich’s upcoming performance exploring fiddle traditions from around the globe!”

Featuring rare archival footage, the documentary includes personal experiences and insights into the show’s timeless impact from Fiddler on the Roof’s composer Jerry Bock and lyricist Sheldon Harnick. Also included is commentary from former cast and creative members along with famous fans impacted by the musical, such as Joel Grey, Harvey Fierstein, Harold Prince, Itzhak Perlman, Stephen Sondheim, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and more.

Admission is free. Reservations can be made at TheSembrich.org/festival or by calling (518) 644-2431. The film screening will take place outdoors under a performance tent on The Sembrich’s lakeside grounds.
