The Sembrich kicks off its lakeside Promenade Series on Friday, July 7, at 7pm, with the Adirondack Jazz Repertoire Ensemble. We’re thrilled to have these jazz favorites perform at our Bolton Landing music festival!

This series of lakeside evenings offers listeners an opportunity to experience wide range of musical styles including classical, light classics, and jazz. The Adirondack Jazz Repertoire Ensemble brings the excitement of Dixieland, blues, bebop, funk and contemporary jazz to the shores of Lake George.

“We are delighted to welcome the Adirondack Jazz Repertoire Ensemble to The Sembrich to open our 2023 Promenade Series,” says Artistic Director Richard Wargo. “This outstanding eight-piece ensemble features members of the larger Adirondack Jazz Orchestra and features some of the regions finest musicians.”

The Adirondack Jazz Orchestra was founded in 2003 under the musical direction of trumpeter Matthew Pray. Its sole purpose was to bring together some of the Adirondack’s finest musicians in a big band setting. Members of the group consist of high school music educators, college professors, and college students all who share an interest in performing jazz on a regular basis.

The group plays a wide variety of the Big Band Genre, from standard big band arrangements to original compositions. Each month, the group performs a line-up of charts from Glenn Miller, Buddy Rich, Charles Mingus, Thad Jones, Maynard Ferguson and arrangements written by some of the band’s members.

The Adirondack Jazz Orchestra performs regularly at Olive Ridley’s in Plattsburgh, NY. The full big band performs on the first Wednesday of every month while the chamber-sized Adirondack Jazz Ensemble performs on the third Wednesday.

This is the first performance in The Sembrich’s Promenade Series. Other events in the series include the cutting-edge cello and guitar duo Boyd Meets Girl on Wednesday, July 26 and Genghis Barbie, the leading post post-feminist feminist all-female horn quartet, on Wednesday, August 23. Regular tickets and series subscriptions are available via phone at (518) 644-2431 or online at TheSembrich.org/festival.

The Sembrich's programs are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
