Our 2025 festival, The Gilded Age, viewed the world of late-19th and early-20th century America through the career of Marcella Sembrich and the opulence of the era. Through over 20 events, we explored the diverse music that mirrored the culture of the time – in a series of concerts, lectures and films, that concluded with an elegant vocal recital rich with gems from Sembrich’s operatic repertoire – all performed by today’s finest concert artists.

A Gilded Age Musicale

2025 Gala Performance

The curtain descends on our summer season with an elegant recreation of a Gilded Age vocal recital featuring the dazzling coloratura soprano Kelli Butler, joined by pianist Michael Clement.

Marcella Sembrich’s lakeside studio, adorned with garland and candlelight, serves as the setting for this Gilded Age recital of songs and arias from opera and operettas of the era, including several virtuosic selections from Sembrich’s own repertoire, including “Sempre libera” from Verdi’s La Traviata, the aria with which Sembrich concluded her operatic career on February 9, 1909.
