The Sembrich Highlights Music of the Middle East with Innovative Ensemble The Brooklyn Nomads
The Sembrich’s Touba Family Foundation World Music Wednesday Series continues with a performance by The Brooklyn Nomads on Wednesday, August 10 at 2 PM. The Brooklyn Nomads is a collective of musicians from different cultural and stylistic backgrounds. Members of the collective hail from Lebanon, Germany, Sudan, Turkey, Iran, the US, Albania, and others. With roots in Middle Eastern and Arabic music traditions, The Brooklyn Nomads integrate into their performances global styles like Flamenco, Jazz, Balkan, Bluegrass, North & East African, European Classical, and more.
“As we continue our World Music Wednesday series, we are turning to the exotic strains of the Middle East, a region previously unexplored here at The Sembrich,” says Artistic Director Richard Wargo. “We are delighted to bring this dynamic ensemble to the lakeshore to share with you the rich musical traditions of the Middle East and beyond.”
Founded in 2014, The Brooklyn Nomads started performing in venues around New York City. They wanted to explore songs from different cultures in new ways to create a listening experience that exemplifies the joy and energy of live concerts and connects with new audiences around the world.
“Our strong hope is to make music and create experiences that reflect our understanding of the world as a place that is beautiful because of its diversity, and be a catalyst in bringing cultures, styles, and people together,” says bandmember Haddi Eldeback.
This performance is generously sponsored by the Touba Family Foundation and John and Cindy Carr and their staff at Adirondack Brewery.
Tickets are $30 and can be purchased online at TheSembrich.org/festival or by calling (518) 644-2431.
