The Sembrich Film Series Continues with Film Adaptation of Acclaimed Musical Dear Evan Hansen

The Sembrich’s Film Series continues with a screening of Dear Evan Hansen (2021), a film adaptation of the hit musical, on Monday, July 25 at 7:30 PM. Actor Ben Platt reprises his original role on the big screen, bringing to life Evan Hansen, a high-school student on a journey of self-discovery that ultimately allows him to finally be accepted by his peers and live the life he never dreamed he could have.

“This is the second of three film adaptations of hit musicals featured in this year’s film series,” says Director of Outreach Caleb Eick. “Reimagining a musical for the big screen is no small task. We look forward to welcoming everyone to the lakeshore for this contemporary take on and incredible show!”

Dear Evan Hansen is a 2021 American musical coming-of-age film directed by Stephen Chbosky from a screenplay by Steven Levenson. It is based on the 2015 stage musical of the same name by Levenson, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Ben Platt plays the title role, reprising the performance that he originated on stage six years earlier. The ensemble cast also includes Kaitlyn Dever, Amandla Stenberg, Nik Dodani, Colton Ryan, Danny Pino, Julianne Moore, and Amy Adams.
