“Mi México Querido”
2023 Gala Performance
Join us for an elegant cantina-style evening on the Sembrich lakeshore featuring a rising star from the world of opera, tenor Leonardo Sánchez.
After five years in Europe, Sánchez has returned to his native roots with a program that evokes the color, tradition, and passion of his beloved Mexico. A not-to-be-missed evening of song and sentiment accompanied by the guitar, guitarrón, vihuela, and accordion – pillars of traditional Mexican music.
First place winner of the Special Prize and the Youth Revelation Prize in the "Carlo Morelli" National Singing Competition at the Opera of Bellas Artes in Mexico, Leonardo Sánchez is the youngest tenor to have won this contest, considered the most important prize in Mexico and Latin America.
Sánchez has shared the stage with great artists such as Rolando Villazón, Ramón Vargas, Susana Zavaleta, María José, Anastasiya Petryshak, Thomas Hampson, and Placido Domingo, and has performed on some of the most prominent stages in Switzerland, Italy, Germany, France, Spain, the United States and Mexico.
Leonardo Sánchez is a member of the Chanteurs Solistes program of the city of Lausanne in Switzerland, where he continues his training with the soprano Jeanne-Michelle Charbonnet and is one of the youngest artist ambassadors of the international program “Opera for Peace.”
