Reimagining The Classics: Breaking Operatic Traditions
Michael Capasso, American Opera impresario and General Director of New York City Opera, presents The Sembrich season’s keynote talk and shares his insights on some of his favorite works by Verdi and Puccini, exploring a variety of productions and performance practices of the past 150 years. Michael’s talk will be illuminated by several popular arias from the repertoire performed by soprano Kristin Sampson with pianist Michael Clement.
Praised by the New York Times for her “bright, sizable and expressive voice,” Mexican-born, American soprano Kristin Sampson’s 2020-2022 engagements include a debut with Opera Grand Rapids as Liù in Turandot, a role debut as Marguerite in Faust with the Washington Opera Society, and summer concert performances with New York City Opera.
